Y'all who've followed my blog for a couple years now, you know how I do. I warm back into it each year. Gradually.
Well, current things I feel like noting: I beat the original-Metroid-like part of Metroid: Zero Mission and got to the 3rd save point of the, uh, hard part - the part where you run around in a zero suit with a pea shooter. Definitely looking forward to unlocking Hard difficulty, and what I have dubbed the Space Jump Suit. I probably spent 2.5 to 3 hours looking for Space Jump before looking it up and realizing I have to beat the added mission and start over.
And, I've started writing a little set of billing tools to help me keep track of the daily slutload. What's the daily slutload? I have a long-term gig for an adult publishing company. It's cool, but it's also chaotic if you bill in advance and they shuffle what's going to be published after you've billed. Anyway, writing my own billing *cough* "system" *COU*overstatement*GH* ... it's a first. So far the tools that matter are:
- Import content from plain text or OpenOffice Writer formats (either by paste or file import)
- Import invoices, parse them, and verify the math (I've done invoices by hand until now)
- Show discrepancies of work done vs work billed (I include client tracking numbers in invoices)
- Paste any text into a box and get information about the work items mentioned in it
- Paste any text into a box and get a list of the tracking information for work items mentioned in it
If the client is happy to let me cURL the editing interface at their site, then I'll add a bunch more, probably including some superfluous stuff. I just want to be coding!
