HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Some months back, I mentioned that Oracle was stark raving insane. They were attempting to confuse the digital marketplace by advertising "Oracle OpenOffice" as a pay product, when OpenOffice has been free, open source software (aka FOSS) for so many years. I mused that I was going to enjoy watching the fallout from this nonsense.
Viewing Slashdot.org's Oracle search tag lets us see how this story has progressed...
- September: A number of core OpenOffice developers leave Oracle's OpenOffice team and create the LibreOffice project, continuing the open source project from the last version which was FOSS.
- Oracle asks anyone involved in LibreOffice to quit participating in the OpenOffice Community Council in mid-October.
- A whole lot of former Sun employees quit in the same weekend a week later, in late October. (Sun Microsystems, which Oracle purchased, was the previous rights-holder of OpenOffice)
- And now the story is out that 33 more key developers have left OpenOffice for LibreOffice.
And now Nate-strodomus will make another prediction... Oracle will apologize and possibly fire somebody, but nobody will forgive them.
